New Agronomy Course Launch – Regenerative Agriculture Begins with Healthy Soil

Regenerative Intercropping Restores Soil Health

Over the past four decades, the shift toward conventional agriculture—heavily reliant on synthetic fertilizers—has created a dangerous knowledge gap across Africa. This shift has not only degraded the land but also discouraged many smallholder farmers who now believe that farming is no longer possible without costly external inputs. It’s time to rediscover what African farmers once knew: soil is alive, and when we regenerate it, we regenerate livelihoods, ecosystems, and food systems.

That’s why Moja Academy is proud to announce a landmark new course: Training Manual for Organic Agriculture. Launching at a pivotal time, the course coincides with Webinar 10: Regenerating the Land—Unlocking the Power of Soil (Thursday, 3 July, 15:00 CAT), part of the Agripreneurship: Empowering the Future series. Together, they aim to spark a continent-wide conversation on restoring soil health as the cornerstone of climate-resilient agribusiness.

Based on a comprehensive FAO training manual, this agronomy course equips farmers, agripreneurs, and extension officers with a full toolkit for transitioning to regenerative organic methods. Learners will explore:

  • Step-by-step conversion from high-input or degraded farms to organic systems;

  • Composting, green manures, and microbial fertilizers for living soil;

  • Mulching, intercropping, crop rotation, and low-till practices to preserve structure and fertility;

  • Organic pest and weed management techniques that reduce chemical dependency;

  • Strategies to increase soil water retention and mitigate erosion in diverse climates.

The course offers practical guidance rooted in ecological principles and local realities—empowering users to reduce input costs, increase yields, and restore degraded land. Designed to serve agri-hubs, cooperatives, youth enterprises, and public-private extension networks, it is a must for anyone serious about the future of sustainable farming in Africa.

Join us at Moja Academy to turn knowledge into regenerative action—because rebuilding Africa’s food systems starts from the ground up.

Rebecca has been writing since childhood, her first book about a kitten published between homemade cardboard covers in second grade. Although she studied religion and philosophy in university, she continued writing, earning an MFA from Hamline University and publishing multiple picture books (no longer with homemade covers) and a collection of poetry with a variety of New York and independent publishers. She has also published a wide array of fiction, essays, and poetry in magazines and journals and photographs for Getty Images. She balances writing with homeschooling the younger of her six children, launching her young adults, church activities, and overseeing a small flock of chickens in rural West Michigan.
