Program Description

The Introductory Agronomy for Agri-Enterprises Certificate is designed for new entrants into high-value crop agribusiness chains, including emerging agripreneurs, extension service officers, and organized farmer groups seeking to establish profitable, climate-smart production systems. This 25–35 hour self-paced program equips learners with foundational agronomic knowledge and practical skills in regenerative and organic farming, soil health, composting, integrated pest and disease management, and climate smart agriculture (CSA) practices.

By the end of the program, learners will be prepared to apply regenerative production methods, implement CSA-aligned techniques, and make informed management decisions that improve crop quality, yield, and sustainability.

  • High-value crop enterprises require a balance of productivity, environmental stewardship, and market competitiveness. In many African contexts, farmers and agripreneurs lack accessible, structured training that combines regenerative agriculture with CSA principles and practical pest and disease control. This certificate addresses that gap by:

    • Consolidating key technical modules from Moja Academy and Malawi’s CSA Handbook.

    • Aligning training with proven CSA practices relevant to Malawi and Southern Africa.

    • Preparing learners to integrate sustainable practices into profitable agribusiness models.

  • By completing this certificate, learners will be able to:

    1. Explain the principles of soil health, regenerative farming, and their relevance to high-value crop production.

    2. Apply composting techniques and alternative soil fertility management strategies.

    3. Design diversified cropping systems that enhance productivity and resilience.

    4. Identify and manage common pests and diseases affecting high-value crops using integrated, sustainable approaches.

    5. Implement context-appropriate climate smart agriculture practices.

    6. Evaluate production decisions in light of environmental, economic, and market considerations.

  • Each of the six modules in the Introductory Agronomy for Agri-Enterprises Certificate culminates in a Certification Quiz that combines:

    • Multiple-choice questions to test core knowledge.

    • Short-answer reflections to assess applied understanding.

    • Long-form responses or scenario-based problem solving to evaluate decision-making skills in realistic agronomic contexts.

All quizzes are graded individually by a Moja Academy mentor and evaluated on a Pass or Fail basis. Learners who do not pass on the first attempt will have one opportunity to revise and resubmit their work.

This assessment approach is designed to ensure practical comprehension and thoughtful engagement, emphasizing application of knowledge rather than rote memorization.
